Amelia Bown, a Northamptonshire based printmaker and illustrator, produces original screen prints and illustrations with the aim to promote the beauty of the natural world. Amelia studied MA in Visual Communication (Illustration) at the University of Derby in 2012 and after a break following graduation, returned to the art world in 2020, with a series of works including a linocut Sea Turtle print. This piece went on to win the Air Art award as part of the Derby Print Open, and was subsequently exhibited, along with the rest of her Ocean Life series, at Derby Hospital during 2020/2021. This exhibition helped to bring joy to patients and medical staff by providing a well needed burst of colour and playfulness in a challenging environment. This encouraged Amelia’s leap into the professional art world and was the start of her journey in celebrating and promoting the natural world.

Amelia’s fascination with nature started at a young age. Growing up in Leicestershire’s rural countryside, surrounded by wildlife, her dream was to be like David Attenborough. Sharing her passion for art and wildlife, Amelia creates prints and home-ware that highlight the beauty and wonder of the natural world, drawing inspiration for her subject matter through observation and research. Amelia introduces colour through the use of patterned paper applied to line drawings and often makes marks with ink on paper or linocut backgrounds to be incorporated into digital paintings and silk screen printings.

Amelia’s aim is to push the limitations of traditional screen printing by including reflective elements for water or adding texture through the build up of ink.

Amelia participates in art fairs and exhibitions across the UK with her original prints and illustrated home-ware. She has exhibited in London and Edinburgh after becoming a Sketch for Survival finalist in 2020, 2021 and 2023 with digital paintings of endangered species. In February 2024 Amelia was awarded an honourable mention from Blue Koi Gallery for her Squirrel Monkey silk screen print.
