Bringing the character of an animal alive on paper or canvas to preserve for life.
Specialising in animals, Chris has a fun yet real style . She works in watercolour inks and oils, using the natural colours of an animal. Then adding subtle purples, plums and reds to make marks to show the movement in the fur, sagging of the skin or smoothness in the tusks.
Chris didn’t follow her passion for art as she left school, instead she had a long career in designing cloths. First working in industry then having her own business which her husband joined her in.
Art was always there she painted with her children and grandchildren. It was her own daughter that pushed her back into doing more with a Christmas gift of art supplies in 2019.
Surrounded by fields full of live stock gave her many willing models to draw. Visiting the zoo with the grandchildren gave more subjects. Getting the photos was as fun as painting the animals, watching the way they moved and react with the public was fun. As a family they have fed the giraffes, sloth, penguins and elephants. One day Chris would love to go on a safari to see them properly in the wild.
I do believe things come to you for a reason now is my time to be an artist. Chris G
