My name is Dorothy Robinson.
My interest in art began when I was at school and in animals as far back as I can remember.
I have always owned dogs and cats and have adopted various small animals along the way. Wildlife and nature have always been very important to me.
On leaving school I rejected the offer of a place at the local Art College and instead pursued a career in Animal Care which began as a Veterinary Nurse and subsequently as a boarding kennels and grooming centre owner.
When I eventually retired my son and daughter, understanding my love of Art, encouraged me to join an art class and I picked up my pencils and brushes once again and embarked on my art journey.
Oil painting was the first venture, which is still a favourite, but I now also work in pastels and coloured pencils, which I find suits my style and the essential fur textures and fine details required to produce authentic animal portraits.
I work on various surfaces matching it with the detail and effect required to create the best results.
Perhaps having been surrounded by animals my whole life has helped me understand and effectively produce detail such as conformation, fur texture and expression. As an Artist, the greatest thrill is when the subject ‘comes to life’ and the character begins to shine through.
My first paintings and drawings were for family and friends but now include outside commissions of both pets and wildlife.
