My inspirations are many, particular light in nature and the natural world, I love the change of seasons and the different sense of mood and light. I am passionate about wildlife and pets, and have a particular fondness for garden birds, and very often spend time taken out while gardening to watch and listen to, as well as draw them. My garden also inspires me , new growth and the first buds of early spring, then the full growth of blowsy roses and flowers attracting all manner of insects, butterflies and bees. Not forgetting the frogs and dragonflies that visit the pond. Although perhaps not animal related I love the art of the Pre – Raphaelites and other artists from the past and aim for a slightly romantic style in my own work.
I have worked in soft pastels and occasionally water colours for a number of years, but have recently started to use coloured pencils, thus enabling more detail in my work and a cleaner finish. I find pastels a difficult medium to protect when transporting or posting any distance. However I do love the medium to work with finding nothing else (so far) that can evoke the same feeling of light and mood, and also I enjoy the tactile quality of the medium. I am currently experimenting with combining pastels and pencils to get a result that I am happy with. I am always striving to improve and diversify my art.
