We are delighted to celebrate our International Member Award 2026 recipient, Margo Brault, whose journey reflects determination, passion, and a deep commitment to animal art.

“I joined AAA in the fall of 2025 because I was seeking a community of artists who shared my love of animal art,” Margo shares. That sense of belonging was not always easy for her to find: erlier in her career, she recalls being told by a gallery owner in Louisiana that animal art was not “a thing” and “did not sell.” Rather than discouraging her, the comment only strengthened her resolve. “I was so committed to becoming an animal artist that I just knew there was a place for me somewhere.”

Since joining the Association of Animal Artists, Margo has found both inspiration and encouragement within the community. She highlights “the high quality of the members’ work,” as well as our multiple resources to support our members, our charity work, and “and the kindness and encouragement.” As she puts it, “I feel like I have found my tribe.”

Margo’s work is rooted in a strong sense of purpose. “I am very committed to the animals I paint,” she explains. While not a biologist or conservation specialist, she uses her art to raise awareness of the challenges animals face, including habitat loss, poaching, illegal trade, and mistreatment. Inspired by real-life conservation stories, her paintings place the animal firmly at the centre, often with only partial glimpses - sometimes just hands - of the people caring for them. This subtle choice reflects the often unseen dedication of those working in conservation, whose efforts focus entirely on the animals rather than recognition. “I deeply appreciate all people and organizations who work to protect endangered species and to reduce suffering...I strive to highlight the plight of the animals while also restoring people’s hope in humanity ” she says.

Receiving the International Member Award 2026 has been especially meaningful for Margo. “It is not just an honour from such a prestigious organization,” she says, “but a strong validation that I have followed my correct path. I am very grateful.”

Through her art, Margo contributes in her own way: “The despair over world events is overwhelming, but the antidote is action. One of the actions I have chosen, is to use my small artistic ability to highlight, not only the plight of endangered animals, but also the good work being done by different wildlife organizations.”
