"I endeavour to capture the beauty of natural subjects and notice the extraordinary in the ordinary, conveying a sense of awe."
Previously after completing a Foundation Studies Certificate in Art and Design then graduating with a B.A. Honours Degree in Fine Art (Sculpture with Photography) from Leeds Polytechnic, Anne-Marie worked extensively in photography. Later, when attaining a Postgraduate Certificate of Education in Design and Technology at Middlesex University, London, she taught Photography & Digital Imaging and Art & Design at various London colleges. Anne-Marie’s art works are symbolic, focused on notions of spiritual and metaphysical journeying and storytelling.
"Painting brings and keeps me alive like breathing. Within the joy and freedom I experience, I am compelled to visually express the beauty and wonder of encounters from 'common mystical moments' in time on life’s journey where spiritual realms meet; where heaven touches earth. My love of the beauty of nature and animals, times of meditation, stories and dreams inspire my artwork"
During Anne-Marie's recent and current collaborative exhibitions in August 2022, 'Serendipitous' at The Wooden Box Gallery, Ramsgate Kent, September 2022 ‘Living The Dream’ at Show Off Gallery, Whitstable Kent and February/March 2023 (& August 2022) at 'Under The Rainbow' at Bluewater, Greenhithe, Kent, her latest collection of paintings from ’Tropical Nocturne,’ 'Emotion Animals' and 'Aqueous Paradise' will be on display and available to purchase.
Anne-Marie visually communicates ‘imaginative interactions’ with animals in dream like realms. These expressions invite you to journey, where you are at liberty to embrace yourself in child-like innocence. By conveying the power of light and colour Anne-Marie seeks to illuminate these realms of wonder inviting the viewer to transition into a new place and encounter beauty, refreshment, and transformation. Working in an 'Abstract Realism' style her process starts with gestural movements using inks, high-flow acrylics, soluble graphite, wax pastels, collage, modelling paste, stencils, spray paint, acrylic paint, and acrylic mark-making.The tempo slows with refinement using pigments and often precious metals (gold & silver leaf) in conjunction with natural textures for example crystals, pearls & diamond dust, finishing with oils. By implementing colour temperature and ‘chiaroscuro’, light and dark are amplified thus adding to the sense of depth, drama, and wonder.
Anne-Marie layers with zoomorphic and anthropomorphic symbolic imagery; her paintings provoke evocative questions and emotions. They express life’s journey and explore first-hand experiences where life, hope, light in the darkness, beauty & kindness, friendship and love all dwell.
'Somehow, she captures the beauty of natural subjects and notices the extraordinary in the ordinary'
Anne-Marie loves spending time with her husband and teenage son.
