I am a self-taught wire artist based in North East Wales and have been creating 2d and 3d art with this medium for over 12 years, on and off. I use single strands of wire to create everything I make, in various gauges, strengths and colours. When using coloured wire, I try to get the colours similar to whatever I'm making, to give it a feeling of realism, regardless of it's size as I don't tend to make anything over 12 or 13 inches high. Over the years I have made 3d animals, birds, fish, lizards and insects as well as inanimate objects such as guitars and a toadstool. I occasionally like to embellish my creations with a bit of bling such as sequins and glass seed beads and crystals.
Last year, for the first time, I decided to enter one of my creations into the open art exhibition at the Royal Cambrian Academy and was lucky enough to be selected. Since then I have had 2 more pieces accepted for major exhibitions at the Mall Galleries in London. The first one was for the Royal Society of Marine Artists annual exhibition and the 2nd was for the Society of Wildlife Artists exhibition. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to sell anything but just to have my wire art chosen for these prestigious juried exhibitions was such a thrill.
Earlier this year one of my creations sold at the RCA open, with I was very pleased about.
I currently don't have a website so I tend to sell at art and craft fairs, and I also do commissions. In the past I have done workshops with small groups of people and am hoping to get started again with more coming up in the near future.
