Hi, my name is Suzanne Lycett and I’m an artist specialising in wildlife drawings and portrait commissions of pets and children. I grew up in Dorset with a love for nature and a passion for art. After moving to London, I began a career in the music industry spanning two decades, working with a host of UK and international artists across most genres of music. It was an exciting but very demanding role and I eventually left to raise my family and rediscover my own creative interests.
Largely self-taught, I have taken courses over the years in oil painting and life drawing. I have experimented with different mediums but now work in graphite and coloured pencils on paper and drafting film. I enjoy the precision that pencil offers for highly detailed realistic drawing, combined with the ability to layer and blend a range of colours for depth and variation. I have always enjoyed portraiture and particularly relish the challenge of capturing a true likeness and evoking a little of the subject’s character.
I live in Barnes, a pretty corner of South West London surrounded by green spaces. We’re lucky to have the river, the local nature reserve, the Wetlands Centre and Richmond Park on our doorstep. I regularly return to my roots in Dorset for rambles across the countryside and breathtaking walks along the Jurassic coast. The surprising breadth of flora and fauna to be found in my local area and further afield are a constant source of inspiration for my work. I aim to highlight the many benefits of spending time in nature and observing wildlife to those who may be too busy to notice the wonders that surround us!
I am constantly learning and honing my skills in realism and always have at least one drawing in progress on my board. I have a collection of wildlife drawings, prints and cards on my website, and look forward to participating at local fairs and exhibitions later this year.
